Best friends for me, are for life. I’ve one best friend who has pretty much been in my life FOREVER.
From primary 3 all the way through… and still now. Bike rides, playing on hay bales, building dams in streams… to barn dances and road trips… holidays and daft funny drunken nights… Through all of it. One of the best people.
Carolyn found the love of her life, and married him, in July. Lucky I was, to be a part of it. A bridesmaid (of sorts) I was entrusted in her
A ceremony enriched by the people and the place. A tiny church, surrounded by woodland. Fields for miles and old stone buildings. The church now of community. Non-denominational, and able to provide a place, where these loves could be knotted together. In Humanist ways and filled with their own stories.
Intricacies in the details. Small posies of natural flowers clustered in stone sills. Onlookers at the gate, waving and sharing in the excitement. A church window, glowing with the tale of the sea and the words “Peace Be Still”, which I felt, and I settled upon to hold my (happy) tears at bay.
My own family there with me, to be a part of this, my oldest and bestest friend’s day.
Love weaves us all together. The ones who are forever, placed beside us, in trace of lives previous. In trust of lives we have yet to share, in our now and our hopeful distant futures.
The materialistic elements, provide a pleasing place for the eye to settle… beauty, yes. The flowers and the place settings. Novelties and food provided. Venue and music played.
The true joy is in the people present. For now. For always.
The whole weekend was an absolute joy. So glad for them both. That joy still brings a warmth to my soul.
A weekend so needed. That remains still, and the smiles (and the love shared) will stay, I know it.
