Today was a day, magical in many ways…
Thick haar, cloaking bridges and Forth. Preceded by a sleep so deep, unheard of on market days…
A hare raising off curled hunch to run… in graceful leap as if in slow motion.
A peewit, stood watchful in ploughed stubble field, seed in early growth, green shoots in linear furrows. Likely guarding, nest and young.
A sparrow, alighting on fence top. Before either side, tall beech hedge, combined with starry flashes of blackthorn. A feather in mouth. Another sparrow landing, ground below. Met gaze… topmost sparrow, dropped said feather to the ground, as if a gift or a common purpose. The ground sparrow picking it up in his tiny beak. A team effort in miniature.
Synchronicities in conversations. Goosebumps galore, in stories and moments shared. Names and places as if written in the stars… that we should meet, and these conversations should happen. On this day. In this, the most beautiful of market settings.
Not every market is of outstanding sales, and holidays paid for… monetary bountifulness, not for today… but other joys. Like all of these, mentioned above.
As artists we all sometimes struggle, to marry a lack of sales, on any given day, with an attitude of ‘aw it’s ALL fine, it’s absolutely not something I will let eat me up’… generally, even with sensible thought, and the knowledge our work is otherwise loved… In other places, on other days, by other people….
But… when days are filled with such tiny wonders, as today was, we instead try to focus on the lovely people, moments and noticings that sprinkle our life with sparkle and love.
A quote, “And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.”
I for one believe, that with these in mind, I know I’ll continue to utter… to those I choose to bring into my life…
At the end of my own stories…
“There’s magic in that!”
And from this I move forward. Heart filled. Tired, but content. All will be well. As long as good people, nature and daylight, are gifted into my life.
